Forged or cast welded stainless steel spheres pose difficulties in the overall forging process and are used in important applications such as valves for nuclear power plants. Stainless steel spheres can adopt a forged and welded structure.
The valve body with stainless steel ball tube plate welding structure is generally suitable for nominal pressure less than or equal to 5.0MPA (CLASS300). This type of valve body has the characteristics of light weight and easy processing of the inner cavity, but special attention should be paid to the arrangement of reinforcement ribs during design to prevent deformation of the body cavity under internal pressure.
A cast valve body with a stainless steel sphere and valve cover connected by a flange. Non circular valve cover flanges (usually oval or square) are used for valves with nominal pressure less than or equal to 2.0MPA (or CLASS150) and various pressure levels with a diameter less than or equal to 65mm (2 1/2in); Circular valves used for nominal pressures equal to or greater than 2.5MPA (or CLASS300). The connection end between the valve body and the pipeline is usually butt welded. The stainless steel ball and valve cover adopt a cast valve body with internal pressure self sealing connection. Flanges can also be used for the connection end. This type of stainless steel sphere is commonly used for high pressures with a nominal pressure equal to or greater than 15MPA.
The typical small diameter forged valve body for forging stainless steel spheres has four types of connection ends: internal thread, socket welding, flange (whole forging or butt welding), and butt welding. The connection between the stainless steel ball and the valve cover also includes four types of stainless steel balls: threaded, flanged, welded, and pressure self tightening.
