In order to save costs (reduce weight), hollow balls are often used in the design and manufacturing of ordinary low-pressure (generally PN64 or ANSI CLASS 300 and below) ball valves. Hollow balls are made of steel plates pressed into a spherical shape in a ball mold, with a hollow center, and then a steel cylinder is welded in the middle of the inner side as a medium channel (hence commonly known as sleeve ball). High pressure or high temperature working conditions are prohibited.
